Festivals of Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Adha in Pakistan
Pakistan is an Islamic country and the major religious festivals are Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Adha. Eid-ul-Fitr is celebrated after completion of the Islamic month of Ramadan in which Muslims fasts for God�s sake. On Eid-ul-Fitr day, people offer special prayers in morning and after the prayers, elders give money to children which is called Eidi and the women make special sweets called Siwaiyyan and Kheer. On this occasion people meet their relatives and forget any mishaps among each other if any. Television channels show different programs, dramas and plays relating to Eid day. The celebrations last for three days.
Eid-ul-Adha is celebrated in the Islamic month of Dull Hajja (or Zill Hajj). It is celebrated in remembrance of Prophet Ibrahim and his son Ismail. On Eid-ul-Adha day, a special prayer is offered in morning and then people sacrifice animals in the name of God and distribute the meat to relatives, charity organizations, poor and needy people. Children and young people arrange BBQ parties in the evening. This Eid also lasts three days.
Another religious festival is Eid-Milad Un Nabi which is celebrated on 12th Rabi-ul-Awal. It is birthday of the last prophet Muhammad PBUH.
The other minorities in Pakistan also celebrate their religious festivals, like Hindus celebrate Diwali and Holi and the Christians celebrate Christmas and Easter. Special programs are arranged in churches and temples during the festivals celebrated by minorities.
